Key Stage 4 Information
All students in year 11 follow the Edexcel BTEC Extended Certificate in Workskills, which provides them with the equivalent of one B grades at GCSE. Throughout the course students cover necessary skills for the modern workplace, for example CV writing, job applications, interview skills, working in a team and money management.
Key Stage 5 Information
BTEC Extended Diploma in Uniformed Public Services
This two year course aims to equip students with the skills to apply for a variety of public services whilst gaining an insight into many aspects of the job. The BTEC Extended Diploma is valued both by employers and universities. The course is entirely coursework based and students will be assessed through practical and task based work, projects, assignments, individual and group work and written and oral presentations. Students will be assessed on a portfolio of work.
Out of School Activities
  • • All year 10 students take part in a two week work experience placement during July
  • • KS5 trips to Supreme Court/Royal Courts of Justice/Old Bailey

The WRL department also runs the SHS Business Partnership, which provides:
  • Mock interviews for all year 11 students with business professionals
  • 1-1 careers interviews with a careers specialist
  • Links with local businesses to provide work experience placements
